
Local action is important!
the main aspect of taking action is to derive change. Driving change by supporting action at the local level plays an important role in delivering global change. Slogans such as “think globally, act locally” have been used for many years in an effort to encourage individuals and locally anchored movements to see their place—and their actions—as part of a broader effort. What the message highlights, however, is the fact that a multitude of individuals acting locally influences global conditions whether or not we “think” globally. Local action has often been pursued in the shadow of the global negotiations, yet many of the most important breakthroughs currently being made are arguably being accomplished at the local and regional levels. For example, Mayors can use climate resilience planning as a cornerstone for building inclusive, sustainable, and equitable cities across the nation, while also reducing the risks, costs, and harmful effects of climate change.


Community action is about putting communities at the heart of their own local services. Involving communities in the design and delivery of services can help to achieve a number of objectives, including Building community and social capacity – helping the community to share knowledge, skills and ideas. Local decision-making can be better tailored to local diversity and opportunities, as well as differences in people, culture and livelihoods, and
Holding rulers to account is often easier, because the connection between the governors and the governed is more direct.
